            Instructions for spinal Injections

The treatment at the Advanced Interventional Pain & Sports Medicine Center  is based on clinical

examination and supported by radiological (X-rays, MRI, ultrasound) investigations.  Clinical

evaluation is the first step in the treatment and the patientis are clinically evaluated by the physician

at each visit (first or the tenth visit).

Research has already shown that the radiological (X-rays, MRI, ultrasound) investigations do not

always correlate with source of pain.  As the hair grey and skin ages, so does the inside of the body.

MRI of lumbar spine performed on people who never had pain have shown degenerative changes,

arthritis, disc bulges, facet joint arthritis and degeneration, spinal canal stenosis. Radiological

investigations are important part of the treatment but are not the only basis of treatment.

                    Conditions Treated

          • Spine: Failed Back Surgery Syndrome, Back pain, Thoracic spine pain, Sciatica Radiculopathy, Spinal stenosis, Degenerative spine,

Spinal stenosis, Degenerative spine, Degenerative disc, Herniated discs, Sports related spine injuries, Osteoporosis,

            Spondylolisthesis, Spondylosis

          • Neck: Neck Pain, Spinal stenosis, Degenerative spine, Degenerative disc, Radiculopathy, Herniated discs, Sports related spine

            injuries, Osteoporosis, Spondylolisthesis, Spondylosis

There are many spine injections and there is not a single spine injection which will give pain

relief for all pain conditions. Clinical examination with support of radiological investigations will

direct towards the type of spine injection.  Without clinical evaluation, one is not treating the patient

but the radiological investigations. At our center, the clinical evaluation is done by the physician at

each visit. In other bone and joint problems, like fractures,  the healing of fracture cannot be

evaluated without radiological investigations, but in spine pain, clinical evaluation is more important

than radiolgical investgations. A spine MRI may show abnormalities, but the person may not have

pain.  Radiological investigations for patienst with pain from spine are important, but need to be

            correlated with clinical evaluation.
